April 13th - A South Dakota Story: Step into South Dakota’s history and celebrate America’s 250th anniversary at the Spearfish Senior Center. At 1 PM, Karen Holzer will present an engaging talk on the traders, explorers, soldiers, and everyday people who shaped the state. This event is open to the public and offers a unique opportunity to connect with local history and the community celebration.
April 18th - America 250 Variety Show: Celebrate 250 years of American history with music, dance, storytelling, and theater at the America 250 Variety Show. Performers of all ages bring a lively mix of acts honoring the people, events, and culture that shaped the nation. Pay-what-you-can admission. The show starts at 7:00 PM on April 18 at Matthews Opera House.
April 19th - The Fight for Freedom: Celebrate America 250 at the High Plains Western Heritage Center with The Fight for Freedom. Join Lt. Colonel Harvey Fitzgerald, U.S. Army Retired, at 2 PM on April 19 for a stirring talk on The Declaration, reconnecting, remembering, and celebrating the nation’s founding.
April 23 - The Battle of Little Big Horn and the Buffalo and Freedom on the Plains: Join the Madeline A. Young Speaker Series for a free talk on Paul Hedren’s Sitting Bull's War, exploring the Battle of Little Big Horn from the Lakota and Northern Cheyenne perspective. 7–8 PM at the Joy Center.
May 3rd - The Fight for Freedom: Continue the America 250 celebration at the High Plains Western Heritage Center with The Fight for Freedom. Join Lt. Colonel Harvey Fitzgerald, U.S. Army Retired, at 2 PM on May 3 for Constitution Part 1, a thought-provoking presentation exploring the foundation of the nation.
May 16th - The Fight for Freedom: Conclude the America 250 celebration at the High Plains Western Heritage Center with The Fight for Freedom. Join Lt. Colonel Harvey Fitzgerald, U.S. Army Retired, at 2 PM on May 16 for Constitution Part 2, a compelling look at the nation’s enduring framework and principles.
July 3rd- The Spearfish America 250th Parade: Join our community to celebrate America's birthday with The Spearfish America 250th Parade on July 3, starting at 2 pm! The parade route starts at the Spearfish High School, turning right onto Hillsview St. Then turning right onto North Ave., continuing down Main St., and will dispurse off onto Grant St.
