Come Along on a Walkthrough of the Farmers Market
Farmers Markets are a great place to engage with fellow members of the community, get to know your neighbors and find some great crafts and baked goods. It’s a time well spent for both your social battery and your wallet. There’s always something special to find whether that is a gift for a loved one or a baked good for breakfast. Maybe looking for specialty soaps with clean ingredients or fresh produce from a farm, you will find something special as you walk through the vendors and tents.
A Saturday Morning Destination
As we parked the car it was evident that there was already a crowd of people at the park. Although this was my first time at the Farmers Market, I could already tell that this was a regular Saturday morning activity for many others as we made our way to the tents.
For someone who had skipped breakfast that morning, the first stop at the market was a sourdough and pastry booth. Rhubarb muffins, sourdough bread and cookies covered the table. I made a mental note to come back for some bread once I had finished walking around the entirety of the park.
We continued walking and my mom made a note on the fresh produce that was at the next table. Vegetables and fruits all grown locally. There were also fresh flowers in tin and clay pots, which would make for a great gift for a special date or anniversary.
Continuing down the line of tents we found a one with different cakes and pastries...WITH FREE SAMPLES! (When the lady at the table said we could try as many of the free samples as we wanted that definitely piqued my interest.) I tried a chocolate cake while my mom tried a coconut chocolate macaroon. There were so many flavors it was hard not to buy them all after trying the samples.
Though the food, fresh produce and flowers all looked incredible, there were also quite a lot of handmade goods and crafts. A tent with leather handbags, wallets, keychains and knife pouches. Some tables had wooden side tables and cutting boards. One booth we stopped at had different hand cut wooden decorations. There were different animals with various wooden layers. I was staring at a ‘Star Wars’ sign when my mom found a Sasquatch design. (The Sasquatch was indeed purchased as a gift for my dad.)
There were tables with locally made coffee grounds and household cleaning supplies (that both smelled incredible). One table had locally sourced soaps and candles, another had small paintings of animals and nature landscapes. There were a few tents that had handmade jewelry displayed. Necklaces, bracelets and rings that are perfect for any look during any season.
It was fun to walk through the local vendors and see all that was offered. The baked goods all smelled so good, and it was clear that each piece of handmade craft was handled with detail and care.
The Farmer’s Market was held in the Lion’s Park, and the tables were all owned by local craftsmen, bakers and producers. Being my first time, while seeing the crafts and trying the baked good samples offered to us, it was even more enjoyable getting to know the people at the market.
All the vendors were happy to chat and engage in conversation. One jewelry maker let us pet her puppy while sharing about how she adopted the dog. Another was happy to share how he made his wood art and all the different pieces that went into his craft. It was a warm and welcoming place that made the morning that much better.
As we walked back to our car with our purchases, we knew this would not be the last time we stopped by the Farmers Market.
