Spearfish Downtown Offerings in Every Season
Downtowns are special in all towns, but especially to a tight-kit community like Spearfish. All throughout the year special events are held in this special spot in town to further grow and engage the community. During the summer there’s bouncy castles and live music. Fall brings entertainment and vendors. Treats and candy during Halloween, and a lights’ parade to celebrate the Christmas holiday. Every season, all year round, Downtown on Main rings in a special event for the whole community, celebrating local businesses coming together and a community that continues to grow.
Summer Nights
Summer calls for music, friends and good times. Downtown Friday Nights is held every, you guessed it, Friday night of the summer from June through August. Live music, vendors, lemonade, sidewalk sales from the downtown shops, cornhole, bouncy castles, and more. Bring your friends, bring your family, you can even bring your dogs. A perfect evening hanging out with friends, listening to great musical artists and watching the sunset behind Crow Peak.
Of course that’s not the only thing offered during the summer. If you are a car lover, you have to check out the Black Hills Corvette Classic in July. A downtown car show where tons of corvettes line the streets for people to check out and admire.
July also means the Fourth of July! Celebrate the U.S.A’s birthday with attending the Parade. Dress in red, white and blue and make sure the kids have their candy bags as floats of all sizes drive down Main. After the parade, stop in some of the shops to see all they have to offer. An Acai bowl at Good Earth Natural Foods. Check out all the cool antiques and collectables at Main Street Antiques and Décor.
Autumn Afternoons
Falling leaves and beautiful colors, Autumn is a sight to behold in Spearfish, and you won’t want to miss out on the Autumn events. Harvest Fest is held each September with live entertainment, vendors, activities for the kids and more. Celebrate fall in downtown Spearfish by kicking the season off with Autumn fest.
When October rolls around be sure to bring the kids to Treats on Main. Local businesses all along Main Street and Downtown Spearfish offer trick-or-treating to kids and their families. Great way to begin the spooky night. Plus, more parades travel down the downtown street with celebrating not one but two Homecoming Celebrations. Alumni, be sure to attend the Black Hills State University Swarm Days and Spearfish High School’s homecoming parades.
Wrapping up the fall holiday, November has ‘Pink Friday’. Support local businesses in checking out their specials and sales. Boutiques all along downtown participate and they all have incredible selections and specials for a girls’ shopping day. (Great chance to start your Christmas shopping a little early.)
Winter Lights
The holiday season is more than just Christmas lists and gingerbread cookies. Join the community for the Holidazzle Light Parade and Tree Lighting. Sip on some hot chocolate from the downtown coffee shops or grab some peppermint bark ice cream as you countdown the tree lighting. Enjoy the floats drive by all decked out in lights with their festive Christmas music. Who knows, you might just see Santa Clause!
Spring into Action
When the sun starts to shine again and the snow begins to melt, it’s time to get out of the house! Spring collections hitting the window displays, and the flowers blooming along the downtown strip. Set your shopping bags down and enjoy a drink outside on the coffee shops and restaurants outdoor seating.
March 15th celebrate Scooby Day in honor of the late rescue dog Scooby. Walk along the route Scooby and his handler, Animal Control Officer Scott Beal would take on their parking route along Downtown. Make a pitstop at Leone’s Creamery for “Scooby Tracks” ice cream. The Stadium also offers a special shot called the Scooby Snack as well. Bonus: you can bring your dogs along for the walk. But that’s not all you can do with spring rolls around!
Attend a play or film showing at the Matthews Opera House. Check out the spring collections in all the locally owned boutiques Downtown has to offer. Grap a coffee or pastry and enjoy a stroll along the Downtown sidewalks, you might even run into someone you know or meet someone new!
