Unlike many of our previous "travel through time"-style programs, this program is unique in that it seeks to explore the interpersonal relationships of two of the most prominent 19th century German composers, Robert Schumann and Johannes Brahms and the complex influence of Robert Schumann's wife, Clara Schumann. Brahms counted Robert Schumann amongst one of his closest friends, but their friendship was far from simple. Upon Robert Schumann's admission into the asylum after an attempted suicide, Brahms and Clara Schumann's friendship blossomed into a complex interplay of platonic and unrequited love.
This program will feature Johannes Brahms' Piano Trio in C Minor, Selected Songs by Clara Schumann (with Guest Artist Dr. Melissa Bumbach), and Robert Schumann's Piano Quartet in Eb Major.
