Having a Picnic in Spearfish, SD.

Summer is here and that means it’s time to enjoy a nice meal while also being able to spend time outdoors. Yes, it’s picnic season! There is no better place to enjoy a nice picnic than Spearfish, South Dakota. With its vast outdoor adventure opportunities to spend time with the family, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t be able to grab a bite to eat outside as well.

                First, where are you going to do your shopping. Every picnic needs great food, as well as blankets, coolers and of course the basket. In Spearfish, there are plenty of places to stop including Lueders Food Center, located on the corner of 7th St. and Hudson St., Lueders is a great place to stock up on all the essentials for great picnic. With their selection of beverages and in house deli, you’ll find anything you need. Safeway, located on North Ave. and Walmart, located on 1st Ave., is a larger store with a larger selection and you can find something to eat, even for the pickiest of family members! Also, are you looking for that organic option? Good Earth Natural foods has you covered and they are located right downtown.

 

                Okay, now that we have the food covered. Next, we need a location. Well, Spearfish is not short of options. With 11 picnic shelters at 9 different parks, Spearfish has enough room to fit the whole family, even your great aunt you just met before your family reunion.                 Are you looking to have a little more lowkey picnic? Every park is still a good option, with most parks located next to Spearfish Creek it’s a great way to keep cool on a hot summers day. And for those of you who will be in Spearfish Canyon, there are plenty of picnic locations there as well.  The Black Hills National Forest Service website has a great list of picnicking areas as well as other activities to do within the Spearfish Area.
