As a community that truly embraces the outdoors, Spearfish takes pride in its parks. The Spearfish Parks, Recreation, and Forestry Department maintains twenty-six developed parks, "pocket" parks, dog park, and sports field areas, as well as a 7.4 mile Rec Path.
Spearfish Parks offer a little something for everyone. Kids will love the playground in the City Park as well as other parks throughout town. Sports enthusiasts will delight in the baseball and softball fields, basketball courts, football fields, horseshoes, sand volleyball, a skate park, soccer fields, tether-ball, and tennis courts.
Enjoy the recreation path on foot or bicycle. The path, which runs alongside Spearfish Creek, winds in and out of a number of Spearfish parks. Take advantage of benches throughout the parks to relax and savor your surroundings. Bring fishing gear and find a spot along the Creek which is home to Rainbow and Brown Trout. While at the City Park, stroll over to the D.C. Booth Historic National Fish Hatchery. While there, feed the fish and ducks, walk the trails, and tour the different historical buildings and displays along the way.
Of the 17 parks and playgrounds, there are 11 picnic shelters available for rent. For more information on shelter rentals, please click here.
