From light displays to shopping to pictures with Santa, one will find just what they are looking for to experience the holiday cheer in the Black Hills. Below is a list of events and festivities, leading up to Christmas Day
Festivities & Events Calendar:
Festival of Trees (Nov. 20-23): Zonta Club of Spearfish will be hosting their 33rd annual Festival of Trees at the Tretheway Pavillion the beautifully decorated trees, wreaths and holiday decor to celebrate the season.
A Magical Medora Christmas (Nov. 30): Make your way to the Spearfish High School Auditorium for this magical musical performance starting at 4 pm! All your favorite holiday songs will be performed live by the Bill Sorensen Production. Purchase your tickets ahead of time to save your spot.
Sip N Shop (Nov. 30): Crow Peak Brewing Co. will be hosting their annual Sip N' Shop event on November 30! Get your shopping done early with wonderful products made by local vendors during this event. Not to mention, there will be great handcrafted beer on tap while you shop around!
Christmas Shopper's Village (Dec. 1-21): Shop for your Holiday gifts this season at the Christmas Shopper's Village, located at the High Plains Western Heritage Center! There will be local vendors setting up for this event and plenty of great gifts to buy for those on your list this year.
A Very Potter's Christmas (Dec. 1): Join the High Plains Western Heritage Center for their annual Christmas performance from the Potters' at 2 pm! Listen to your favorite Holiday jingles to kick start the season! Make sure to purchase your tickets ahead of time, these are likely to sell quickly.
Killian's Winter Art Market (Dec. 1): Enjoy the Holiday Festivities at Killian's from 5 pm to 8 pm! This Winter Art Market features local artist's work, delicious food and fun festive drinks. There will also be a live performance by the Carburetors during this event.
Grinch Painting at Spearfish Clubhouse (Dec. 4): Alexandra Hanson will be hosting a guided painting class at the Clubhouse of Spearfish, starting at 6 pm! This class will teach you how to paint the famous Grinch on an ornament. There are limited spots available, so reserve your spot ahead of time!
Hatchery Holidays (Dec. 5-8): The D.C. Booth Historic Fish Hatchery will be hosting their annual holiday event from 12 pm to 4 pm. Browse through the gift shop to find the perfect present for those on your list this year. Roam the grounds to see the festive decorations and listen to the local musicians perform live! Don't forget, this family friendly event will have lots of holiday snacks and drink, along with a chance to see Santa!
Signing Santa (Dec. 5): Meet Signing Santa at Jitter Joint as he reads a story through American signing! This family friendly event is free to the public and starts at 4 pm to 6 pm. There will be photos with Santa, crafts and activities for all ages.
A Madrigal Dinner (Dec. 5-7): The BHSU Music Department will be hosting a full evening of food, music, and theatrical entertainment in Clare and Josef Meier Hall at BHSU’s presentation of “A Madrigal Dinner.” Start with the social beginning at 5:30 pm, followed by the dinner starting at 6:30 pm. Save a spot ahead of time for this magical night of entertainment and a well-made festive meal.
Winter Wonderland (Dec. 6, 7, 13, 14, 20, & 21): Venture through Spearfish City Campground to see the beautiful light display created by local businesses! This event is hosted by Spearfish Optimist Club and is a free will donation to enter. This display is from 5 pm to 8 pm of the dates listed above.
Feast of Saint Nicholas (Dec. 6): Spearfish Saint Joseph will be hosting a Feast of Saint Nicholas starting at 5 pm! Learn about the true story of Saint Nicholas with your family and friends. There will be a dinner, photos with Saint Nicholas and activities & games for the kids.
Julefest at Our Saviors Luthern Churh (Dec. 7): Julefest, A Scandinavian Christmas Festival and Bazaar, hosted by Our Savior's Lutheran Church will be from 8 am to 1 pm. Enjoy crafts, quilt sales, baked goods, face painting, antiques, and much more! This event is free and encouraged for the public to bring canned food items for the Spearfish Food Pantry.
Holiday Market (Dec. 7): The Spearfish Rec Center are having their annual Holiday Market from 9 am to 4 pm. Get all your holiday gifts from the 75 local vendors at this event! From baked goods to hand-crafted items, there are plenty of wonderful gift offerings.
Holiday Cheers & Termespheres (Dec. 7-8): Celebrate the season at the Termesphere Gallery's Holiday Open House! Discover the artistry of Dick Termes up close, find unique holiday gifts, and experience the world of Termespheres in a whole new way. Get some of your shopping done this year with the generous 10% off everying in the gallery just in time for the holidays!
Christmas Cheers with Santa (Dec. 7): Meet Santa and get your seasonal photos taken with your family at Engel & Völkers from 4 pm to 6 pm! Black Hills Photography will be capturing the festive moment with you and your family, just in time for your Christmas cards this year.
Holidazzle Light Parade and Community Tree Lighting (Dec. 7): Visit Spearfish and The Spearfish Downtown Business Association will be hosting the Holidazzle Lights Parade starting at 6 pm. See all the local business decorate floats the celebrate the holiday cheer! After the parade, stay for the Community Tree Lighting located by Leone's Creamery to kickstart the holiday season.
Christmas with the Green Dolphin Band (Dec. 8): The Green Dolphin band will be performing a Christmas special at the High Plains Western Heritage Center starting at 2 pm! Listen to the popular Holiday hits but with a twist of jazz mixed in. Purchase your tickets ahead of time to save a spot!
Holiday Light Contest (Dec. 9-31): Spearfish Rec Center are hosting their annual Light Contest! If you would like to enter the contest, make sure to register your home by Dec. 6. This is a great family friendly outting to see all the fun festive decorations in our neighborhood and make sure to vote for you favorite!
Brewing Christmas (Dec. 10): Alexandra Hanson will be setting up at Spearfish Brewing for a Sip N' Paint at 6 pm! She will teach you a step-by-step tutorial on how to paint a Mistletoe Boot for Christmas. Reserve a spot ahead of time to lock in a spot!
Bellman Brown Bags Series: Spearfish Piano Duet Club (Dec. 11): The Bellman Brown Bags Series featuring the Spearfish Piano Duet Club presents their annual holiday music event at Matthews Opera House starting at 12 pm. This event is free and open to the public to attend!
A Christmas Story (Dec. 13, 14, 15, 17, 20, 21, & 22): Matthews Opera House presents the original "The Christmas Story" on the dates above! This hilarious show will take you through the perspective of Ralphie Parker, in his quest to get a genuine Red Ryder BB gun under the tree for Christmas.
Ugly Sweater Contest (Dec. 13): False Bottom will be hosting their annual Ugly Sweater Contest starting at 9 pm! Their will be awards given out to 1st, 2nd, & 3rd place and winners will be announced at the end of the night. Enjoy access to a full bar and great vibes with the community!
Holiday Festival and Stroll (Dec. 14): Stroll to Downtown Spearfish and enjoy a vendor market put on by Neighbors 2 Neighbors Farmers Market and Hanna's Twist Bakery! Also enjoy retail specials from the local businesses and boutiques. This festival lasts from 9 am to 3 pm!
$20 Cherry Video Release Party (Dec. 14): Join Crow Peak Brewing Co. for $20 Cherry Video Release Party starting at 7 pm! Show up in your best ugly Christmas sweaters and Hip-Hop attire while enjoying the old skool rap videos playing throughout the night. Stick around for the sweater contest to wrap up the night!
Christmas on the High Plains! (Dec. 15): The annual Christmas special performed by Paul Larson and friends returns to the High Plains Western Heritage Center! Make sure to purchase your tickets ahead for this live performance.
Holiday Market (Dec. 15): The annual Holiday Market outside of Leones' Creamery will be from 12 pm to 4 pm! Check out the local vendors, sweet treats, and holiday spirit located at the Old City Hall Courtyard. This is a great time to get in your last second shopping before the Holiday's!
Christmas Movie Trivia (Dec. 17): Put your Christmas Movie knowledge to the test at Spearfish Brewing! Teams of 1-6 people are welcome to join starting at 6 pm. For the winning team, get a round of drinks on the house!
Christmas Ornament Workshop (Dec. 21): Matthews Opera House will be hosting a Ornament Workshop at 1 pm to 3 pm! Join Joanna Mechaley as she teaches all how to create the perfect decoration for the holiday season. To participate, each person must pay a fee of $30.
The Carburetors Holiday Extravaganza (Dec. 21): Get the party started at the Spearfish Public House starting at 8 pm! The Carburetors will be having a live music performance with a little mix of holiday! Stop by for some great drinks and celebrate the season!
TBill & Gravy Train do X-Mas (Dec. 22): Spearfish Brewing Company will be hosting a holiday party from 11 am to 10 pm! Dress up in your favorite ugly sweaters and listen to TBills & Gravy Train perform Christmas songs. Not to mention, there will be great handcrafted beer on tap during the party!
