South Dakota boasts great hunting throughout the state and the Northern Black Hills is no exception. In fact, just north of Spearfish is prime hunting for antelope and the newest big game season in the Black Hills is for mountain lions.

South Dakota Game, Fish, & Parks also offers two season for Turkey - fall and spring. The nearby waters offer waterfowl hunting opportunities for resident and migrating ducks and geese. Grouse and pheasants can also be hunted north of Spearfish.

For hunters and recreational shooters to hone their skills there are three shooting ranges near Spearfish. An archery range is located off Christensen Drive, a rifle and pistol range is located just before you enter the mouth of Spearfish Canyon on Hwy. 14A, and a trap and sporting clay range is located along Hwy. 85 north of Spearfish.
