If you are not sure how to get the most out of your visit to Spearfish, I am here to help! These are some of my favorite things to do here, planned out in a fun-filled day!
Let's start with Breakfast:
There is nothing better than starting the day off with some breakfast at Common Grounds! I have shared many laughs and a ton of conversation in a warm and cozy environment.
Two Words: Fish. Hatchery.
After breakfast make your way to the D.C. Booth Fish Hatchery. It is one of my favorite places in Spearfish. You can sit by the pond, feed the fish, and watch as they swarm to you at the sight of your shadow. This is a great place to take kids and bring out your inner child as well.
What's for Lunch?
Feeding fish can make anyone hungry, so next stop should be food! Eat Lunch at the Redwater Kitchen for lunch and enjoy a cool modern atmosphere and a locally sourced cuisine!
Daily Dose of Adventure:
After lunch, you may be looking to get a little exercise or take a drive. You can do both with a drive through the Scenic Spearfish Canyon. One of my favorite spots to stop and take a hike is the Little Spearfish Falls Trail. You get to walk along a stream and see all kinds of plants. It wraps up at a waterfall, which is perfect to relax by and grab a picture to remember your time here. Another hike that I like to make sure to do, is the Spearfish Falls trail system. You can also on the paved path up to the Roughlock waterfall.
If you are a more experienced hiker or do not mind a steep hike. Take the time to hike the 76 Trail. There are plenty of spots to take a break to watch wildlife and to take in the foliage. From the top, you get one heck of a view which overlooks the entire canyon.
Afternoon Drink:
After the hiking and/or scenic drive, I like to relax with a refreshing craft beer. There are many breweries in town, all with a unique atmosphere. If you are here during a cool afternoon, stop by Spearfish Brewing Co., they have a fireplace outdoor table that allows you to take in the beauty of downtown. If it is a warmer day stop by Crow Peak or Sawyer Brewing. They both have outdoor seating, and Sawyer Brewing even has Spearfish Creek flowing beside the seating area.
Supper:
After a drink, stop by Dough Trader Pizza for the best pizza experience in town! … but save room for dessert!
What is the best way to round out the day? ICE CREAM!
This is one of my favorite spots to stop after a hot day, or really any day. Leones Creamery has new unique and delicious flavors every week to cool me off and leave me in awe about what Spearfish has to offer. It is definitely a stop you do not want to miss.
